Greenbriar Vision Center performs exams to determine the potential benefit of laser eye surgery for applicable patients.  We exclusively refer to Dr. John C. Baldinger at Capital Eye Consultants as our refractive surgeon based upon his extensive experience. 

Capital Eye Consultants (CEC) is a private practice that manages medical and surgical eye problems. They do not do routine eye care services.  Dr. Baldinger at CEC works with Greenbriar Vision Center to ensure complete and comprehensive eye care.

We are not a "center," but a private medical practice. CEC is owned by Drs. Baldinger and Powers. Unlike most "centers," there are no corporate officers, managers or stockholders to satisfy or, more importantly, to pay.

We did not operate on Tiger Woods. We do not feel that commercial advertising is appropriate for eye surgery or medical care.

Dr. Baldinger is one of the busiest and most experienced eye surgeons in the Washington D.C. area. His expertise in refractive LASIK surgery is well known throughout the medical community having performed over 4,000 procedures. He has been a recipient of the prestigious "VISX Star Award" (awarded to the one hundred busiest LASIK surgeons in the United States). He has performed over 7,000 cataract procedures and was one of the first eye surgeons in the D.C. area to offer topical clear corneal suture-less cataract surgery to his patients.

Meet Dr. Baldinger

John C. Baldinger, M.D.
Dr. Baldinger is a graduate of Emory University, B.A., 1976, and Vanderbilt University, M.D., 1980. He completed his internship at the University of Pittsburgh in 1981 and his residency in ophthalmology at The Eye and Ear Hospital of Pittsburgh in 1984. He also served as a vitreoretinal fellow at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, in 1985 and 1986. Dr. Baldinger possesses extensive surgical experience in both phacoemulsification cataract extraction and laser vision correction, including PRK and LASIK. His fellowship in vitreoretinal disease provides expertise in eye disease from the front to the back of the eye. He has been board certified in Ophthalmology since 1986.

Dr. Bladinger is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist with 23 years of clinical experience. He is also the leading cataract surgeon in the Metro-Washington DC area and as of 2007 he has successfully performed over 7,000 LASIK procedures.

His reputation of integrity and a conservative, safe approach to surgery fits well with the Greenbriar Vision Center concern in caring for your total vision needs.  Many local Optometrists have chosen Dr. Baldinger for themselves and their families' LASIK procedures.

Our office is handicapped-accessible through the entrance in the back of the building. At Capital Eye Consultants, we have more state of the art diagnostic equipment than most ophthalmic practices in the Washington, D.C. area.
